Cheney Knights V Woodies ‘1’ Teams; Cheney Knights Sam Burdett(c) Richard Wesson Ryan Shaw Joe Steele Kev Baker Tristan Hooper Woodies ‘1’ M.Hilton D.North J.Birtwistle J.Warner R.Bulmer E.Wallace The Scores; Cheney Knights V Woodies ‘1’ 13-7 7-13 13-1 9-13 42-34 Legs;2 Legs;2 The Cheney Knights did it again and escaped relegation on the last game of the season as the Houdini’s of the Premier League lived to fight another Day on a tense but enjoyable Night in Gaddesby.Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Ryan Shaw and Joe Steele and they got off to a great start going 7-0 up but unfortunately that was as good as it got as the Woodies pointing improved no end and this was a team who were still chasing the Premier League title and as they got some big scores the Knights began to retreat and the Woodies took it 13-7,Over on the other Piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was playing with Kev Baker and Tristan Hooper who all played together when the Knights were a successful team but had not played together for some time and it showed in the First end as the Rothley team got 6 but slowly but surely the Knights clawed there way back and won the game 13-7,So at Half-Time and the score set at 1-1 and no word from the Match effecting the Knights in Quorn for both teams it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team went far behind early on but as the Gaddesby team pulled their way back into it confidence grew and the Knights even took the lead 9-8 but the team who were to finish in Second place had a Few more cards up their sleeve and won the game 13-9,Over on the other side Richards team were simply awesome as all 3 Players played out of their skin when it counted as the Knights were unstoppable winning 13-1,So the Final Score was 2-2,42-34. Captain Sam said afterwards ‘I am so pleased that We again have stayed in the Premier League as it is the only place to be and We are a team of Premier League players,We did not pay too much attention to what was happening in Quorn as the only game We could effect was the One happening in Gaddesby and we just did enough,I would like to thank My Vice-Captain Richard Wesson who is good for Me and is always on hand to listen and is a good sound board as well as being a great player,I would also like to thank every single Player who has played for the Knights this season and We even started a Girl for the First time in 10 Years with Verity James Walker playing in the Presidents cup,But without Player like Rob Woods,Charles Parker,Rob Hunt and Mark Bent We really would struggle as they fill in when they are needed,We have struggled this Year because a lot of the time I have not had Players available to Me who really can make a difference in a game for various reasons so We deserve some luck with that next Year,It really would be nice next Year to take the next step and We have the Players to do that but I think I said that at the end of last season so it would be good to get a good start and stay North of the table but We have to stop saying it and do it,One thing is for sure the Cheney Knights have a bright future’. Blacksmith Anvils V Cheney Knights Teams; Blacksmith Anvils N.Clark S.Harrison D.Sturgis C.Harrison K.Stevens A.Gaw Cheney Knights Sam Burdett(c) Richard Wesson Rob Woods Joe Steele Tristan Hooper Rob Hunt The Scores; Blacksmith Anvils V Cheney Knights 11-13 1-13 3-13 5-13 20-52 Legs;0 Legs;4 The Cheney Knights ended their last Presidents Cup game of the campaign with a good 4-0 win as results elsewhere in the Premier League went against them on a drizzly Night in Quorn.Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Rob Woods and Joe Steele and they really made hard work of it as the Anvils went 10-2 up before the Knights bided their time and came back to win 13-11,Over on the other Piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was playing with Tristan Hooper and the ever improving Rob Hunt and they did not muck about taking a 11-0 win and although the Quorn team got 1 the Knights soon had the game tucked up in bed as they thrashed the Anvils 13-1,So in a game the Knights were really using as a practice game and 2-0 to the good it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team took a healthy lead early on and although the Anvils got 3 the Gaddesby team were just too strong for them as the Knights smashed the game to bits winning 13-3,Over in Richards game it really was much the same as Sams game as the Knights always looked comfortable and soon had the game tied up 13-5,So the Final score was 4-0,52-20. Captain Sam said afterwards that this was good practice for next Weeks big game against Woodies ‘1’ and a win always produces confidence even if it is against a Division ‘B’ team,He then said that He or none of the team had played here before which is a good thing as it rarely happen and adds more experience to the team but as a competition the Presidents Cup has just not worked,He lastly added that although Tonight was fun and light next Week all shots need to count as this game will be as tough as it gets against a team chasing the Premier league title and with results going against them this game will define the Knights campaign as this is the only game left from now until the end of the season. Next Game;11th September-Woodies ‘1’(Rothley)-Home. Many thanks for this. Thanks for that.Received, thank you.ReplyForward |
Farriers V Cheney Knights Teams; Farriers C.Dawkes G.Marston C.Carter C.Smith C.Boothby M.Granatowicz Cheney Knights Sam Burdett(c) Richard Wesson Rob Woods Joe Steele Tristan Hooper Rob Hunt The Scores; Farriers V Cheney Knights 13-5 13-6 13-5 13-5 52-21 Legs;4 Legs;0 The Cheney Knights Suffered their Second 4-0 thrashing of the season as the campaign got very serious on a piste they have lost 4-0 on all 4 Years they have been back in the Premier League on a soaking Night in Ratby.Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Rob Woods and Joe Steele and although the Knights got the First point it did not get that much better as the Farriers took advantage of having home advantage on the hardest piste in the whole league which has a Ravine going through the middle of it and leans so much that You have to change Your whole style of play as the Farriers cantered to victory 13-5.Over on the other Piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was playing with Tristan Hooper and Rob Hunt who had taken the place of Dave Whait who pulled out through injury and they went far behind before staging a mini comeback before the Ratby team took charge and won the game 13-6,So at Half Time and the scores on this Piste being 12-0 before the game Tonight it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team got straight into trouble before the Gaddesby team got 2 ends of 2 which on this Piste is a miracle before the Farriers led the way and showed the Knights how to do it as they cruised to victory 13-5.In Richards game the Knights looked like being ‘Fannied’ before some descent pointing got the Knight to 5 but there was only going to be One winner as the Farriers strolled to victory 13-5,So the Final score was 4-0,52-21. Catain Sam said after the game that nobody on His side played that bad it is just that the Farriers never drop games at home and the Knights no that better than anyone,He also added that this has obviously done their fight against relegation no good at all and means everything now rests on the last game of the campaign,He lastly added that this is always a freak game and the Knights now need to dust themselves off and give everything in the last game of the season. Next Game;4th September-Blacksmith Anvils(Quorn)-Presidents Cup-Away. Received, thank you. Thanks for that. Many thanks for this.ReplyForward |
Cheney Knights V Three Crowns ‘B’ Teams; Cheney Knights Sam Burdett(c) Richard Wesson Rob Woods Joe Steele Tristan Hooper Dave Whait Three Crowns ‘B’ P.Cobbin G.Hey B.Elliott R.Wheelhouse S.Mcarthur M.Satterthwaite The Scores; Cheney Knights V Three Crowns ‘B’ 2-13 13-10 13-1 7-13 35-37 Legs;2 Legs;2 The Cheney Knights made sure this relegation battle will go to the bitter end as they fought out a draw in a game they should really have won on a pleasant Night in Gaddesby.Captain Sam was playing with Rob Woods and Joe Steele and the best thing You can say is that they got 2 points as the Knights played very poorly and deserved what they got as the Crowns won with ease 13-2,Over on the other Piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was joined by Tristan Hooper and Dave Whait and the in form side of the Knights delivered as they took a healthy lead and although the Hathern team did get to 10 the Knights were always in control as they won 13-10,So at Half Time against One of their relegation rivals and with the scores locked at 1-1 it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team stayed quite level with the Crowns who it has to be said were guilty of bad Sportsmanship and would not let Sam retake a shot which most teams would have done and although the Gaddesby team did win a lot of ends it was all Ones and when the Crowns moved the Coch and by luck got 4 there was again only going to be One winner as the Crowns won it 13-7,Over in the other game the Knights were on bang tidy form with all 3 players standing up to be counted as they powered to a very good win 13-1,So the Final Score was 2-2,37-35. Captain Sam said after the game that although this result keeps the Crowns 3 points behind the Knights this game was there for at least a 3-1 victory but maybe certain Players lack of experience was exposed with some shocking shots,He also said that Richards 3 really are on great form at the Minute and He did not want to single out any Player as all Three are bang on the money,He lastly added that the Knights last 2 League games are against the teams currently in 1st and 2nd position and with the other 2 in this fight playing each other in 2 Weeks so points have to go somewhere some players need to get their finger out and get boules near Coches from now until the end of the season. Next Game;28th August-Farriers(Ratby)-Away. Many thanks for this.Received, thank you. Thanks for that.ReplyForward |

Captain Sam said after the game this was a really big result for the Knights but this fight is far from over,He also said that Richards 3 really were good Tonight and Special mention should go to Dave Who’s pointing was what dreams are made of,He lastly added it is a shame that Next Weeks game has been cancelled as the Knights look good at the moment and need to keep momentum going but with a tough run in and everything to play for the Knights need to keep standards high from now until the end of the season. Anchor Nether Broughton V Cheney Knights Teams; Anchor Nether Broughton S.Gant B.Jones M.Jones W.Freckingham M.Purves J.Hendrick Cheney Knights Sam Burdett(c) Dave Whait Joe Steele Verity James-Walker Rob Woods Darren James-Walker The Scores; Anchor Nether Broughton V Cheney Knights 13-6 13-8 7-13 13-2 46-29 Legs;3 Legs;1 The Cheney Knights suffered another loss in the Presidents Cup which is a competition they are just now using to blood new players on a wet and miserable in Nether Broughton.Captain Sam Burdett Was playing with Joe Steele and making Her debut and the First Girl since Gemma Scott way back in 2009 to play for the Knights was Verity James-Walker and it has to be said Her First 2 points were bang on the money and the game was quite even until the 6-6 mark and then the Anchors started to pull away and although Sam did save the Knights quite a few times the Nether Broughton team took it 13-8,Over on the other Piste acting Vice-Captain Dave Whait was playing with Rob Woods and Darren James-Walker and they did not get off to the best of starts going 11-3 down and although they did gain some respect there was only ever going to be One winner as the Anchors won it 13-6,So at Half Time and 2-0 down it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams game was another tight affair with Sam Himself pulling out some good shots including 2 wonder shots to give the Gaddesby team 3 on 1 end and with the last shot of the game and the Knights needing 1 but the Anchor sitting 3 He put it on to win the game 13-7,Over on the other game Dave’s team lost comfortably and that is all You can say as they went down like the Titanic 13-2,So the final was 3-1,46-29. Captain Sam said afterwards that Tonight was about giving People who would not normally play a chance and special mention should go to Verity who really pulled out some great shots,He also said that because of People quitting playing and others stopping due to work commitments the Knights really are going through a transitional period and need to pick from a bigger pool of players,He lastly added that Results in the league on the Night in other games had gone against them but the Knights will keep fighting from now until the end of the season. Blue Bell Peelers V Cheney Knights Teams; Blue Bell Peelers R.Prentice R.Morton D.Gamble R.Brown S.Disney M.Gayton Cheney Knights Sam Burdett(c) Tristan Hooper R.Woods Joe Steele Dave Whait Rob Hunt The Scores; Blue Bell Peelers V Cheney Knights 11-13 13-8 13-3 10-13 47-37 Legs;2 Legs;2 The Cheney Knights fought out a 2-2 draw while putting out a weakened team which is a good result on paper but what it means for their Premier league survival remains to be seen on a hot Night in Hoby.Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Rob Woods and Joe Steele and this was a very strange game as the Knights took a good 10-0 lead but then the Peelers came back into it and the game started to slip away from the Knights and when the Peelers got 11 points in a row to make it 11-10 things did not look good but on the next end the Knights got 3 with 2 nice shots from Joe to win it in dramatic fashion 13-11,Over on the other piste acting Vice-Captain Tristan Hooper was playing with Dave Whait and Rob Hunt and although the Knights went behind they did claw their way back into it but the Hoby team proved too strong and won it 13-8,So at Half Time and with points needed and with the scores locked at 1-1 it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team had a lot of Ones in their game but Once the Peelers got in their stride there was only going to be One winner as the Gaddesby team began to faulter before going down 13-3,Over in Tristans game it really was close all the way through with Tristan Himself in white hot form and showing why the Knights miss Him so much when He doesn’t play and with the last shot of the game Tristan gave the Knights a narrow victory 13-10,So the Final score was 2-2,47-37. Captain Sam said He was proud of this result as drawing with the Peelers with so many players missing away from home is no mean feat,He also said that Victory would really have helped them but it was not to be and in all honesty never looked likely,He lastly added that the Knights only have 4 league games left and with 16 points on the table His team need as many of them as they can get so it is time for everyone to stand up and be counted from now until the end of the season. Captain Sam said after the game that this is the sort of game the Knights should have won if they are to do the impossible and do another great escape,He also said He appreciates that People played that do not normally play but some regulars were not pulling their weight when it was needed,He lastly added that Tristan should be back next Week but Richard is not back until August and Ryan has gone for the forseeable so others need to step up to the plate from now until the end of the season. Captain Sam said afterwards that this First Victory has been a long time coming and can now hopefully spark something in His team that hasn’t been there all year,He also added that it was another great display from Rob who was on form again,He lastly added that the Knights are losing a lot of the team for the game next Week due to Holidays and Ryan stopping playing but they should take heart from this game against a good team and knuckle down from now until the end of the season. Captain Sam said after the game that playing the team just above them and throwing away a 2 game lead is simply not good enough,He also added that at the halfway point in the current Campaign He would give His team an F- for effort as they are just sleepwalking through games,He lastly added that it is ok having the time to save their Premier league status but it is another thing doing it as certain members of the team need to raise their game quite a lot as some of the Petanque on show is poor if they are to save their season. The Cheney Knights crashed out of the Cup although they did put out a very weakened side against a fellow Premier League side on a pleasant Night in Hathern.Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Rob Woods and Mark Bent after Ryan Shaw and Joe Steele flew off to Portugal to watch England in the Nations League Semi Final and they got off to a great start getting 4 on the First end but they did let the Crowns back into it as they went behind 11-10 before Sam pulled off a wonder shot from a losing position with the last shot to put the Knights on for 3 to take the game 13-11,Over on the Other Piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was playing with Dave Whait and making His debut Darren James-Walker and they got hammered again 13-0 making Dave the First man for the Knights team to lose by that score 3 times in 4 Weeks but the Hathern team did deserve their score 13-0,So at Half Time and 1-1 it was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team made a good fist of it with all 3 players putting in a good shift but One bad end at the death of the Match and the Gaddesby Team lost 13-10,Over on the other side Richards side improved but unfortunately the Knights efforts were not enough and they went down 13-7,So the Final Score was 3-1.
Captain Sam said after the game that with a lot of changes this was always going to be a big ask but the Knights apart from the 13-0 in the First set of games did not play to bad,He also said that Darren had played ok for His First game and will get another chance to shine in the coming weeks,He lastly added that with the Knights out of the Cup and the Presidents Cup not looking good His team have to 100% concentrate on the league as that is not looking too pretty either and they must start on the same Piste next Wednesday and thereafter from now until the end of the season.

The Cheney Knights strangely lost and climbed off the bottom of the Premier League table all on the same Night on a drizzly but fun Night in Gaddesby. Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Ryan Shaw and Joe Steele and apart from getting a 1 early on in the game they waited until the Farriers got to 12 before getting a 3 on One end before going down 13-4. Over on the other side Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was again with Dave Whait and Rob Woods and they also went far behind before a mini fight back but the Ratby team were too much and took it 13-8,So at Half Time and 2-0 down again and points needed it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team had a great game with Sam pulling off some great shots and 2 very lucky Ones as well and even got a 5 on the last end as the Gaddesby team were playing how the Knights should play and won it 13-4,Over on the other Piste Richard spent a lot of time mopping up spilt milk and as the Farriers pulled away the Knights luck also ran out as the Farriers won again 13-9,So the Final Score was 3-1,43-34. Captain Sam said afterwards that although the Farriers are the current Premier League Champions and currently top of it as well the Knights should have got more out of the game,He also said that He was proud of His own 3 in the Second game and that 1 could be important at the end of the campaign and after His own bad performance last time the Knights were at Home He needed that game to get the show back on the road,He lastly added that although the Knights are now off the bottom of the league they should be under no illusions and they are not playing well and need to pull their socks up and get points on the board from now until the end of the season.

The Cheney Knights kept their bad start to the season going as they went rock bottom in the Premier League on a fine and pleasant evening in Gaddesby.Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Ryan Shaw and Joe Steele and although they did not get off to the best of starts a 5 on One end for the Knights catapulted them back into the game,They even took a 9-5 lead but soon found themselves 12-9 down but again on One end the Knights pulled it level before the Oscars with the score a 12-12 pointed a boule none of the Knights could beat and the Quorn team won it 13-12,Over on the other piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was with Dave Whait and Rob Woods and they were ‘Fannied’,simple as that as they lost 13-0,So at Half-Time against One of the promoted teams and 2-0 down it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team got the First end with a 1 and that was it as the Gaddesby Team went down 13-1,Over on the other side Richards team took a healthy lead and although the Oscars pulled it back the Knights hung on to win 13-8,So the Final Score was 3-1,47-26.Captain Sam said afterwards that the Petanque the Knights are playing at the moment is nowhere near Premier League standard and they need to get their fingers out fast,He also said to get beat twice 13-0 Two Weeks in a row is simply not good enough as He considered making some changes,He lastly added that the Knights can not have the big dramatic escape every Year as the will get caught out so they need to buckle down from now until the end of the season.

The Cheney Knights suffered a humiliating defeat in the newly formed Presidents Cup and effectively made it unwinable for themselves on a hard but pleasant Night in Gaddesby.Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Dave Whait and Joe Steele with Ryan Shaw unavailable due to play off commitments and they did take the lead early on and that really was as good as it got for this team as the Knights lost it in Two ends of 4 for the Crowns as the Hathern team took full advantage of the Home teams inabilities and won the game 13-3,Over on the other Piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was joined on His team by Kev Baker and Charles Parker and they went far behind but got a 4 themselves on One end and were unlucky to lose 13-12,So at Half Time against a Division ‘A’ side if the Knights were to get anything uot of this game it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team were unlucky on a few ends but on the Whole it was some of the worst Petanque seen of recent Years as the Gaddesby team went down like the Titanic and lost 13-0,Over on the other game it was better from Richards team and at the end the Knights rightly won the game 13-10,So the Final score was 3-1,49-28.Captain Sam said afterwards that although this Cup is not as big as the league and the normal Cup there is no excuse for the type of performance His own 3 put in Tonight at all,He also said of His own personal game the Second game in particular was the worst He has played for many a year,He lastly added that He may use this Cup now to blood new players as it is going to be a long hard season.

The Cheney Knights made it through to the First Round of the Cup proper by One point against a very good team who are in the bottom Division because they have just moved to the 1990 League from the top Division of the Leicestershire league on a tense Night in Gaddesby.Captain Sam Burdett was with Ryan Shaw and Joe Steele and they went behind against good pointing and shooting from the Lions but slowly started to sneak back into it 5-5 and they then took a lead and pulled away but the Kegworth team were always breathing down their necks until with the game sat at 11-11 Sam pulled off Two great shots to win the game 13-11,Over on the other Piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was playing with Dave Whait and Rob Woods and they went behind at the same rate as Sams team so things were not looking good but somehow the Knights clawed their way back into it just losing it 13-12,So at Half Time with points meaning prizes and there being a One point difference between the 2 Teams it really was all to play for,In the Second set of games Sams team went 3-0 down early on but again pulled it back to 5-5 and with Richards team pulling away nicely Sams team had to get points on the board and just got enough as the Lions from 9-6 got a 4 on the last end to win it 13-6,Over on Richards game with the Gaddesby team off into the horizon the Knights hit a bump in the road as the Lions got 4 on One end but Richards team dusted themselves off and finished within seconds of Sams game to win it 13-6,So the Final Score was 2-2,44-43.Captain Sam said afterwards that this was a very good test for His team as the Red Lion are a very good team who no doubt will be in the Premier League before long,He also said He was impressed with the grit the Knights showed as in the First game when things were not looking good they did not panic,Before lastly adding that He was pleased to go into the Cup instead of the plate as the Cup is the big One and His team should take confidence from this as it is the presidents cup next Week and the Knights need to battle on all fronts from now until the end of the season.

The Cheney Knights suffered their First defeat of the season to drop down the table to Fourth against the former Premier league champions on a very long and wet Night in Gaddesby.Captain Sam Burdett was again playing with Ryan Shaw and Joe Steele and although it was level scoring early on every time the Knights won an end it was One and every time the Peelers won One it was a high scoring end so the game was only ever going to go One way as the Peelers won it 13-6,Over on the other Piste Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was with Kev Baker and Dave Whait and although the Knights went behind early on they ground out the ends and once in the lead pulled away to win 13-7,So at Half time with the scores Once again 1-1 it was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams team went 3 behind on the First end and although they pulled a few back their was only ever going to be One winner although the result did not reflect the game as the Hoby Team took it 13-4,In Richards game the Peelers took a big lead but with the Peelers stuck on 12 the Gaddesby team refused to die and got themselves back in the game with some great play from Kev but it was not to be as the Peelers won it 13-11,So the Final Score was 3-1,46-34.Captain Sam said after the game that some of His team were not at the races Today for various reasons but He was impressed with Richards Second game as the Knights just refused to lie down and were very unlucky,He also added that the Peelers are a very good team and this game could at One point have gone either way,He lastly added that with Two Weeks off for the Knights in league action His team need to fight on all fronts now from this point until the end of the season. The Cheney Knights got another winning draw for the Second Week in a row in a game they should really have won outright on a pleasant and fun Night in Barrow Upon Soar.Captain Sam Burdett was playing with Ryan Shaw and Joe Steele and their game took some time to get going with the Knights just behind early on but Once they got into the swing of things there was no stopping them and as they changed through the gears they got the Monkey off their back of losing both games the previous Week to take the game 13-7,Over on the other side Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was partnered with Dave Whait and Rob Woods and their game was close until the Barrow Upon Soar team pulled away and won the game 13-9,So at Half Time and with the scores at 1-1 it really was all to play for.In The Second set of Games Sams team did not get off to a good start going 6-0 behind but You just got the feeling it was when and not If the Gaddesby team were going to get the run of the Piste and Once they did that was it as the Bottoms did not get another point as the Knights powered to a very good win 13-6,Over on the other Piste Richards team seemed to be always behind and Richard in particular always looked to be fighting a losing battle as the Bottoms took it 13-8,So the Final Score was 2-2,43-39.Captain Sam said afterwards that this really again should have been a win like the previous Week but a draw away is not the end of the world,He also said that with Richards team winning both at Home the week before and His own winning both Tonight they just both have to do it on the same Night if they are going to change draws into wins,He lastly added that the early season rustiness should all be gone now and the Knights need to be looking at the top of the table because they have the players but excuses need to stop here as from now until October there is a lot of boule to be thrown in a long season.
